critique

overall i loved the book. I love the story behind it. Noah and Allie have such a strong relationship and no one could break their love apart as hard as they tried. The only thing I would change is the ending of the book. I dont like that they start kissing and taking off eachother clothes when they are like 80 years old. Then the book just ended. Thats the only thing i would change about the book. I love all of Nicholas Sparks book and he never lets me down.

Summary

Have you ever loved someone with all your energy and integrity and had people try and take that away from you and get in the way? In the book, “The Notebook”, Allie and Noah’s love was so strong that no matter who tried to get in the way, in the end nothing could break them apart. It’s a romance novel, but the story is truly a fairytale.

Noah and Allie met in their teenage years. She was a rich girl coming down to North Carolina for the summer, while he was a country boy working for every penny but didn’t seem to mind. They met at a carnival and as soon as their eyes met Noah knew he was in love with Allie. At first she was playing hard to get, but in reality she knew she was falling for Noah. They started spending every second of their spare time together and became so in love. Allie’s mother was not happy about this at all. She told Allie she was no longer aloud to see Noah again and Allie was not happy or okay with this. When Allie and her family left for the summer Noah promised he would write to her all the time. It wasn’t over for the two of them. Noah wrote to Allie everyday for 365 days. He never received one letter in return, so he decided to give up on Allie. When Allie returned to go find Noah she had no idea that he had wrote her so many letters because Allie’s mother hide them from Allie thinking it was the right thing to do.

During the years Allie and Noah were separated she found another man named Lon. At this time they were engaged. Allie didn’t tell Lon that she was going to visit Noah, she simply told him she wanted to go shopping. Allies mom showed up at Noah’s house because she knew that’s where Allie went. Lon kept calling the hotel Allie was staying at and she was never there to respond, so he got very suspisicious and decided to go to North Carolina to find her. He met up with Allie and she told him that she was in love with Noah still and wanted to be with Noah. Surprisingly, he was very understanding but at the same time very upset. Allie finally moved in with Noah.

Years and years pass and at this time Noah and Allie are in a nursing home. Allie has Alzheimer’s disease. Noah stays there so he can be with Allie. There are days where Allie has no idea who he is. Everyday he reads her the same book. It’s a book he wrote about the two of them and the love story behind it. Noah wishes and hopes everyday that she remembers him. One day they are on a walk and she finally figures out that Noah is her husband, but then suddenly she’s screaming for him to get away from her because she has no idea who he is. Noah didn’t get to visit Allie for a couple days. One night he sneaks in the middle of the night to go see Allie. A miracle happens at that moment. She whispers to Noah, “oh Noah, I missed you so much”. Suddenly they start kissing and they are the couple they have always been.

Relationship

I think the relationship between Allie and her mom is interesting because in the beginning of the story she did not want Allie and Noah to be together because he wasn't rich. I think its interesting because when she was younger her mother and father said the same thing about her when she fell in love and she had to stop seeing the love of her life. If it happened to her as a teenager why would she put her daughter through the same thing? Then she realized she made a mistake toward the end of the story because she knows what she was doing was wrong.

Character

My least favorite character in the book was Lon. Lon is the man Allie was going to marry. Its not that I dont like Lon, Its the fact that I didnt want Allie to marry anyone else but Noah. Lon knew Allie didnt feel the same way about Lon like she did with Noah. In the story, Lon seemed very understanding about the situation even though he was very upset still.

Best part of the book

I think the best part of the book is the beginning of the book when they are teenagers and are so in love. I think its the best part of the book because they were so young and carefree and could never love another the way they loved eachother. They spent every minute with eachother and did things that were unforgettable. This part of the book seems so realistic and you can picture everything so clearly. Its a fairytale.

Minor Character

A minor character in The Notebook that plays an important role in the book is Lon. Lon is the guy that Allie was almost going to marry, her boyfriend after Noah. He doesnt have an important role in the book, but he is important because Allie almost married him. She loved him but not the way she loved Noah.

Title

The title of this book is called "The Notebook". It refers to a notebook in the book. It ties to the book because almost the entire book is about this book Noah wrote. Noah wrote the story about him and Allie and he reads it to Allie throughout the book.

what would i change?

If I was able to change any part of The Notebook I would change the ending. I would change the ending because I don't think its realistic or appropriate that they start kissing at the end and doing other things. I like the ending in the movie where they both die together. Yeah, its sad that they die, but atleast they are together. I would be able to understand if they just kissed, but to go farther than that at such a young age is just not right. I loved the book but the ending threw me off just a little bit.

Setting

I think the setting is very important. The setting is important because Noah and Allie first meet in North Carolina in the summer. he promised her he was going to fix up this old house. 14 years later, she sees in the newspaper that he has finished the house. she returns to visit him and thats when we reunite and fall in love all over again. They get married and still live in the same town and have kids and live a happy life.

Connection

There is no way of solving the problem at the end of the story. Allie has Alzheimer's. There is no cure for Alzheimer's. You just have to pray and hope each day that a miracle happens and she starts remembering. Sometimes there can be good days, but other days can be bad. Alzheimer's is one of the saddest diseases and i hope no one I know gets diagnosed with this terrible disease.

Characters

Noah was the character I liked the most. He was my favorite character because he was patient, determined, and real. He waited fourteen years and he finally found the love of his life again. He was determined to meet with her again no matter how long it took. The love that they have is real and barely any couple is ever like Noah and Allie. He was very forgiving after everything that has happened between them he still gave her chances. When I grow up I hope to find a man like Noah.

The Notebook-Nicholas Sparks

I chose to read The Notebook because I love all of the Nicholas Sparks books I've read so far. He is probably one of the best authors I've ever heard about. All of his books are connected to love somehow and I love romance novels. I love the movie so I decided to read the book. This compares to the other books I've read because alot of the books I've read are love stories and this is one of the greatest love stories I have read about. Noone can come between them and that takes alot of strength.
